Vacationing in San Francisco

A lovely treat, made possible by wonderful grandparents to little Kayla. Gordon and I, along with Robyn and Aaron, had a long weekend off of parenting and headed to sunny San Francisco. We did all the things we can't do at home - sleep in and lounge in bed, have peace during all three meals in the day, and do all things possible without the mindset of "when my child needs to nap."
We took in as much as we could, including a major league baseball game, Spiderman 3 on the largest IMAX screen in the world, Alcatraz, Pier 39, Union Square, the cable cars and much more. We returned after 4 days, perhaps more tired than when we left, from all the activity, but extremely grateful for the time away. Kayla loved staying with grandma and grandpa, who were thankful to have us back, remembering that parenting a baby is for the young!

Kayla continues to be the sunshine in our lives. She is joyful, playful and all round pretty darn cute. She has her moments of crankiness, especially as her first 2 teeth have appeared, but then she gives one of her brilliant smiles, and all the trying moments are forgotten.

Valentines Day at Nipika

We headed out to Nipika Lodge/Cabins for a Valentines Day treat. Our cabin (above) was beautiful, and huge (we could have fit another 5 people in there). We spent our time cross-country skiing, eating good food, napping and enjoying the time away.

Life These Days with Kayla

Kayla enjoys sitting in her bumbo seat and chomping on anything she can get her hands on.

Life with little Kayla-bo-bayla is a joy. Unbundling her after naps are the happiest time of each day, as witnessed above!

These days we are practicing sitting up. She's lasted a minute at the most on her own, but we have fun trying!

Ontario Bound

To start off the new year we headed east to Ontario to visit the McArthur clan.
This was Kayla's first flying experience. We were a bit nervous about this, but she did great on the plane. We did not have the screaming child that everyone is annoyed at!
Ontario skipped winter and it felt like spring - rain, green grass... not very Christmas-like.
We had a great visit and survived the long day of travelling home, and we sure are glad to be back in the mountains!

Canmore Ice Climbing Festival

The weekend we were waiting for finally arrived. We headed to Canmore, AB for the annual ice climbing festival, in which Gordon competed. His first competition was in indoor comp, shown above. He entered the in the open catagory in which he was climbing against the pros. He climbed amazingly well and came in 13th place. The second competition was the outdoor mixed comp in which he came in 9th place.
Mom, Dad, Robyn, Aaron, Paige, Rob and Hunter all came to cheer Gordon on. We had a great time!

The McArthur Heritage

It has been proven that genes really do get passed on. Unfortunately a little sooner than we would have liked.
A week ago poor little Kayla Mai had a tumble and now she has a bum knee... just kidding. She has a fracture at the top of her left femur.
It is the saddest sight to see her little leg in a cast, but, it's rather humorous at the same time. Little Kayla Mai is recovering nicely and will bounce back in no time.

The one we've been talking about

So this is our brand new baby girl. Well, i guess by now she isn't really that brand new, as she is 4 weeks today. However, over the past four weeks, i have learned that every day is brand new. Kayla has been such a blessing to our lives. I find myself everyday getting lost in her eyes, staring at one of God's many beautiful blessings.

Parent hood, as Becky and I are learning is a huge adjustment. Some may say that having kids can "dull" down life. I, however, think that it only makes life more exciting and thrilling.

Kayla Mai means "Pure brightness". Throughout our day, wether the sun is out or not, our baby girl provides enough light to see through the darkest of dark.

Over the past year, i have watched this athlete stand and rise above most in the area. With skiing and mountain biking as his passions, his talent exceeds what is normality. I have had the opportunity to take many pictures of young Dustin Greenall and with experiencing/viewing what he can do, it only goes to show that our thought process can only take us so far. The rest, well that's up to your imagination and how far it can go.
